How much do teachers pay in dues to the WEA?

Last week we sent out a Quick Fact about salaries for Washington Education Association (WEA) officials. It seemed appropriate to follow that with information about the mandatory dues used to pay those salaries.

Public school teachers and employees in Washington are required as a condition of employment to pay annual dues or agency fees to the local, regional, state and national affiliates of the WEA.

Here are the facts:

1. The average teacher in Washington pays $744.31 in dues or fees to the WEA each year:

  • Local dues: $141.68
  • Regional dues: $120.63
  • State dues: $352
  • National dues: $130

2. Teachers in the Bremerton School District pay the highest annual dues: $937.

3. Teachers in the Trout Lake School District pay the lowest dues: $587.
